Gender roles and stereotypes

Hello, this week’s blog is a really important topic: gender roles and stereotypes.

The relevance of this topic is because it is very present in the Chilean society, in the day to day. You can always find examples in everyday life of today’s societies.

An example of this is the sexist stereotypes or the stereotypes of beauty.

Although the first has been declining due to feminist movements, there ir still a long way to eradicate machismo. Regarding the stereotypes of beauty, these are very present. People always judge by being tall, low, thin, fat and a countless number more. Here you only have a kind of beauty that has certain characteristics, everything else is excluded.

It should be noted that obviously I do not agree with the presence of these stereotypes because it causes serious damage to the people affected.

Personally, from my experience, the difficulty in gender roles has always seen because Chilean society is so and it’s easy to hear in any everyday conversation some sexistvision or commentary. As for the stereotypes of beauty, just watch a TV commercial to give what is the predominant type of beauty.

Finally, it is necessary to reflect on gender roles and stereotypes, it is necessary to give them the importance they deserve.
